Michigan’s postal history organization, the Peninsular State Philatelic Society, was founded in 1938 by a group of stamp collectors meeting at Detroit’s Book-Cadillac Hotel to provide a statewide organization for Michigan stamp collectors. The group designated the Chambers Stamp Journal, published in Kalamazoo, as its “official organ.” In 1951, the society launched its own newsletter, The Peninsular Philatelist, adopting a name which had been used by two short-lived journals published in Michigan in the late 19thcentury. Today the newsletter is published quarterly, addressing postal history and various philatelic subjects related to Michigan.
Over the years, the Society has developed into an organization of collectors interested in various phases of Michigan philately including postal history, wildlife and other state revenue stamps.
Collectors interested in any phase of Michigan philately are invited to join us. Our annual meeting is held in conjunction with an established show. Other meetings may be held throughout the year in various locations associated with a stamp show.
Our award winning quarterly publication, The Peninsular Philatelist, provides information about philatelic happenings in the state as well as articles designed to appeal to the Michigan philatelist.
